DIRECTIONS:
NOTE: This project creates one 6-foot-long mixed media Hannukah Garland.
- BRAIDED FABRIC HORIZONTAL PIECE:
- Cut or tear fabric into long 2" wide strips. Use the binder clip to hold the ends of three fabric strips together, start braiding. Make the braid very tight. When any fabric strip is within 7" from the end, tuck a new fabric strip under the one ending and continue braiding tightly. Continue adding fabric and braid until you have 7 feet of braided fabric. Knot braid at ends and trim fabric ends to the same length.
- FABRIC TASSELS
- Cut or tear fabric into 9" wide x 18" long strips.
- Fold rectangle in half to make a 9"x 9" square. Arrange the square so that the folded edge is on top.
- Use the Shape Cut Plus Ruler or clear acrylic ruler to cut 1/2" fringe across the square, stopping about 3" from the folded top edge.
- On the final cut, cut all the way through the fold to make a 1/2"X 18" rectangle.
- Unfold the fabric.
- With the wrong side up, roll the fabric up along the long edge.
- Use the 1/2"x 18" strip to tightly wrap the center section that is not fringed.
- Fold the tassel in half and wrap the rest of the 1/2" strip around both ends to form a loop.
- Tuck or glue the fabric strip in half.
- POM POMS
- Hold multiple colors of yarn together at once and use the pom pom maker to make various sized pom poms.
- Leave strings from tying the center of the pom pom long to attach to the braided base.
- STAR OF DAVID CHARMS
- Cut out Star of David templates found under the "Get Patterns" tab.
- Roll out clay to be 1/4" thick. Use a plastic knife to cut around star patterns.
- Roll out "snakes" of clay to use as embellishments onto solid stars or trace the star patterns with the snakes to create open stars.
- Try twisting snakes of clay together for a braided effect or flatten with a rolling pin.
- Poke a hole through the top of the stars prior to baking.
- Bake following the directions on the packaging.
- Thread a piece of embroidery thread through each star, top with pony beads and tie in a loop.
- GARLAND ASSEMBLY
- Slide on tassels, star charms and pom poms. If needed, add a dot of glue to keep elements in place.
