DIRECTIONS:
To find the downloadable patterns click on the "GET PATTERNS" tab above.Finished Size - approx. 24" x 18"
NOTE: Use 1/4" seam allowance unless otherwise noted
- Print out and tape together the provided haunted house pattern.
- Trace or pin pattern to house fabric and cut 2 houses (front and back).
- From the paper pattern, cut out the 3 labeled roof sections.
- Adhere the fusible transfer webbing to the back of the roof fabric (following the manufacturer's instructions) and trace the 3 roof patterns onto this. Cut out.
- Unpeel the backing and iron on the roofs to the front fabric of the house.
- Use a tight zig-zag stitch to clean finish the sides of the roofs that will be exposed after the pillow is constructed. These edges are marked on the pattern.
- Cut out the marked door and windows on the paper pattern. (Don't forget that 1 of them is on the roof piece that was just used).
- Follow the instructions on these pieces to collect necessary fabric, adhere the webbing, trace and cut-out all needed inner window and door pieces for the pillow.
- Unpeel the backing of each piece and iron onto the front of the pillow. Follow the placement of the original pattern.
- Use a tight zig-zag stitch around the perimeter of the door and each window to hide the exposed edges and permanently adhere the pieces to the pillow (the hold of the iron-on webbing will not last).
- Locate the 2 additional printed pattern pieces labeled with shutters, doors and curtains.
- Cut out each of these pattern pieces (place curtain piece to the side), adhere the medium interfacing to all fabrics being used, and then trace and cut out the necessary pieces based on the instructions. (Curtains require no interfacing).
- Once all pieces are cut out and ready to construct, begin by gathering the door pieces. Pair up each set of door pieces with the right sides together (interfacing in each).Stitch around the perimeter of the doors, leaving approx. 1 1/2 " to turn.
- Clip the corners and rounded edges, then flip the right sides out.Press. Make sure the open edge is pressed inward.
- Top stitch around the edges of each door.
- Hand stitch buttons onto each door.
- Line up each door along the edges of the inner door piece (previously stitched on). Pin into place so the door sits flat and closed against the pillow front. Stitch outer side edges of doors into place, very closely along the edge of the doors so that they are attached but easily opened.
- Follow the same steps listed above to create and attach all remaining shutters, including the single shutters for the lower roof windows. These will only have 1 piece that needs to be attached instead of 2.
- Locate the curtain paper pattern and cut out 12 pieces.
- Much like the construction of the doors/shutters, pair each piece with the right sides together for 6 total curtains.
- Stitch around the perimeter, leaving approx. 1 1/2 " to turn.
- Clip the corners then flip the right sides out. Press. Make sure the open edge is pressed inward.
- Top stitch around the edges.
- Use an iron to create 2 folds/pleats into each curtain.
- Pin curtains to windows labeled as "curtain windows" in the desired location and stitch along the top edge of the curtain to hold into place. (easiest to follow the prior top stitch line). Repeat for all 6.
- Tie ribbon around each curtain. Cut off tails and rotate knots to be hidden.
- Pin pillow house front to pillow house back with the right sides together.
- Stitch around the edge of the pillow, leaving a 7" opening to turn.
- Clip all corners and turn the pillow right side out.
- Stuff the pillow with Poly-fil to desired firmness.
- Use an invisible hand stitch to sew up the opening.
JOANN HACKS:
- Remember to pay close attention to the prints on the fabrics when cutting out the patterns. If you want a skeleton to be in the middle of a window, make sure the skeleton is lined up in that position when it's cut out.
- Use a skinny dowel rod, dull pencil or pen to push the corners out of the doors and windows when turning right side out.

My first attempt.
There were some parts of the directions that I felt weren’t very clear but I’m also a beginner. I think the hardest part for was the roof. I’m pretty sure I didn’t see those the way the directions had in mind but I made it work. I’d like to try again in the future.

Halloween Party from
2022 Haunted House
I saw this and loved the idea. Used my own material ideas. A 3 1/2 day of cutting, ironing and construction. Worth the time. Every window has a different face, they are all at a Halloween party. I glued Google eyes for door knobs with fabric glue. I am giving as a birthday gift. She will love it...so will Grandkids. All fabric came from my local Joanns.
