DIRECTIONS:

STITCH EXPLANATIONS:
FPDC (front post double crochet) Yarn over, insert hook from front to back then to front, going around post of indicated st, draw up a loop, (yarn over and draw through 2 loops on hook) twice. Skip st behind the FPDC.
sc2tog (single crochet 2 sts together) (Insert hook in next st and draw up a loop) twice, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook - 1 st decreased.

TECHNIQUE EXPLANATION:
Surface Slip Stitch (worked on the WS)
1. Make a slip knot, but do not place it on hook.
2. Insert hook from WS to RS through crochet fabric.
3. Place the slip knot on hook and draw loop to WS (keep beg tail and working yarn on RS).
4. *Insert hook from WS to RS through fabric a short distance from last insertion location, yarn over, draw loop through fabric and through loop on hook (Surface Sl st made); rep from * inserting hook, as desired, to create surface pattern.
5. Fasten off.
Note: To end a section of Surface Sl sts, cut yarn leaving a yarn tail. Draw yarn tail to WS of fabric, through final loop and pull tight.

PATTERN STITCH:
Post-St Pattern (worked over a multiple of 4 sts + 3 additional sts; beg over a multiple of 4 foundation chains)
Row 1 (RS): Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across.
Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Row 3: Ch 1, turn, *sc in next 3 sts, FPDC around next st 2 rows below; rep from * to last 3 sts, sc in last 3 sts.
Row 4: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.
Rep Rows 3 and 4 for Post-St pattern.

STRIPE SEQUENCE:
*Work 2 rows with A, 2 rows with B; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.

NOTES:
Cardigan is worked in 5 pieces: Back, 2 Fronts, and 2 Sleeves. All pieces are worked beginning at lower edge.
Pocket linings are worked separately.
Yarn color is changed on every other row following Stripe Sequence.
To change yarn color, work last st of old color to last yarn over. Yarn over with new color and draw through all loops on hook to complete st. Continue with new color. Carry unused color along side edge.
FPDC's in this pattern are always worked around the post of the corresponding st 2 rows below and always line up with the FPDC's worked in previous rows. To work in a st 2 rows below, work into the st in the row numbered 2 less than the row being worked.
When instructed to work in Post-St pattern "as established" this means you should continue to work in Post-St pattern taking care to line up the sc and post sts with those in previous rows.
When you see 'work even' in the instructions, this means to continue on in the pattern st you have established without changing the st count by increasing, decreasing, or binding off.
