Be careful lining up parts!
I accidentally put the receiving end of the snap on the wrong side up and the snap wouldn’t close, so I had to remove it with wire cutters and try again. The front and back look very similar so be careful!

Good quality snaps
These are the size snap you find on the front of a jacket to fasten the rain flap over the zipper. I have an old jacket that was made without these, and the zipper is failing. By adding the snaps I really don't need the zipper. It's a little tricky lining up the parts, but it went together with no errors. You need the little tool and a hammer to pound them together, then they are very securely attached. Be careful not to overlap with a seem or part of the zipper (too much thickness would be a problem). While assembling each half of a snap, you will have the piece with locking teeth behind the fabric, and will have to position the other piece directly over it and commit to hammering it together. If you tap and rub with the hammer before you put the second piece in place, you can get the teeth to show through the fabric to be more certain of your alignment.
