Holiday Bow Throw Pillows

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Fabric Scissors
  • Coordinating Thread
  • 1yd Main Fabric (Medium Weight Woven)
  • 1 1/2yds Accent Fabric (Medium Weight Woven)
  • Ruler or Measuring Tape
  • 16" x 16" Pillow Insert

DIRECTIONS:

NOTE: Use 1/2" Seam Allowance

Cutting Directions:

  • Cut Front of pillow 17" x 17"
  • Cut Back Top of pillow 17" x 12"
  • Cut Back Bottom of pillow 17" x 10"
  • Cut Top Tie 52" x 9"
  • Cut Bottom Tie 48" x 9"

Prepare The Bow:

  1. Fold a tie in half long way, good side facing itself.
  2. On one short side sew from the folded edge to the raw edge at a 45 degree angle to make a point on the end of the tie.
  3. Then sew along the long edge to create a tube.
  4. Trim the excess and the point on the angled side.
  5. Repeat for the other tie then turn the right side out & press.

Sew The Pillow:

  1. Lay the back pieces out good side up.
  2. Pin the raw edge of the Top Tie 4" in from the side on the bottom edge of the Back Top piece
  3. Pin the raw edge of the Bottom Tie 4" in from the side on the top edge of the Back Bottom piece.
  4. Sew the ties on 1/4" from the edge.
  5. Top stitch edges of the ties down from the raw edge to 3/4" before the edge of the pillow. Do this on both back pieces. Make sure to back stitch.
  6. On the Back Top Piece iron the bottom edge 1/4" up (to the back side), then another 1 1/4". Sew along the inner folded edge to hem the piece.
  7. On the Back Bottom Piece do a narrow rolled hem on the top edge.
  8. Lay the Front piece face up. Line the Back Top up at the top edge. Lay the Back Bottom up at the bottom edge.
  9. Pull the ties through the back opening the pin around the 4 edges.
  10. Sew around the edges. Do not sew through the ties as you sew around the edges.
  11. Clip off corners then flip right side out.
  12. Insert pillow form into pillow cover.
  13. Bring the ties around to the front of the pillow and tie into a bow. Tack bow in place by hand if needed.
