SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Different size boxes
  • Choice of fabric (yardage depending on box size)
  • Choice of fabric for ribbon (Measure box to determine the length. The width is up to you.)
  • 1 bottle of Fabric-Tac
  • 1 can of heavy starch
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Wrapping Box: Spray fabric with heavy starch, iron or let dry. Wrap gift box using Fabric-Tac to secure the wrapping edges.

  2. Ribbon: Measure around the box, plus 6" to 10" extra for the knot or bow. Raw edges are serged with a rolled hem or a large zigzag, stitch length very close together. Spray ribbon with several coats of heavy starch, letting it dry between sprays. Tie fabric ribbon into desired design knots or bow. Cut any excess off the edges when finished (if trimming off any excess, untie ribbon, zigzag or serge trimmed edges, then tie again). Secure bows or knots to box with Fabric-tac.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Magic Tape will not hold onto fabric to wrap boxes. Hot glue will penetrate fabric and show through right side.
  • When using a serger or zigzag to finish the raw edges, make sure the right side of the needle goes off the edge of fabric. This will encompass the raw edge.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worthless instructions! The instructions are so vague that they are meaningless. Buy fabric (whatever amount you need) and wrap the gift and glue it on. Also, I assume that people want to use fabric in order to reduce waste and trash. Glued fabric is not going to be easy to reuse. I ended up finding a good pattern online for cloth bags with ribbon ties.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of fabric Google furoshiki for a truly reusable and beautiful way to wrap gifts without creating more clutter or waste. The recipient enjoys the beauty and the wrap, like a tote bag is returned to the giver to re use and the recipient doesn’t have to figure out what to do with the odd sizes of fabric.
