Item # 262027328P212
Beginner Over 5 Hours
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Weaving Loom
  • Big Twist Value Yarn
  • Various Holiday Picks/Foliage
  • Cotton Cord
  • Scissors
  • Wire cutters
  • Pliers
  • Large Needle (eye big enough to thread yarn through)

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Follow the directions that come with your specific loom to prep it for weaving. The “warp” strands will be set on the loom with the Cotton Ecru Cord.
  2. Using the cream yarn first, cut a section long enough for you to work with (too long and you will get knots, keep it around 3 feet). Thread the needle on one end and weave the needle through the warp strands going over and under each strand. The yarn is called the weft strand and is woven through each weft strand.
  3. Once the first row is completed, push the weft strand down to the bottom and make sure the line is straight.
  4. Use the needle to weave the weft strand back through the warp strands going the opposite as last time (if you went under last time go over this time). Once you have the whole row woven though, push the row down so it is flush with the first row and pull it tight to remove any excess yarn. Make sure to not pull too tight or you will cause the warp strands to get narrower as you weave.
  5. Repeat weaving the yarn back and forth through the warp strands. Add more yarn as needed and change colors to add blocks of colors within the weaving. To add more yarn or change colors, just end the weaving in the back and knot on a new piece of yarn and continue weaving. This will hide the knot in the back of the weaving.
  6. Once you finish with your weaving, knot off the ends and weave the tail into the back to hide it.
  7. Remove the weaving from the loom by cutting the warp strands at the top and bottom. Knot each warp strand where you cut it tightly around the closest yarn weft row. Knotting them will prevent the weaving from coming apart. Do this to the top and bottom of your weaving. Trim off any excess warp strands.
  8. To add the floral strands across the weaving, cut them to the desired length with wire cutters. Thread a piece of coordinating yarn on your needle and knot the end. Thread up from the back of your weaving, go around the floral piece and then back down through the weaving. Pull tight to secure. Repeat down the floral piece. Placing a floral stiffener at the top and bottom will keep the weaving flat when hung.
  9. Braid three strands of yarn the desired length for hanging (this will depend on the finished size of your weaving and the length you want the weaving to hang.
  10. Knot each end of the braided strand around each end of the weaving, around the floral pick that’s stiffening the top. Trim off any excess.
  11. Cut 15 pieces of yarn 6" long. Using a needle, thread the yarn through the bottom of the weaving. Thread three pieces through at the edge and secure with a knot at the top to create a tassel. Repeat with each tassel using 3 pieces of yarn. Space them evenly across the bottom of the weaving. Trim so they are all even.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
  • Make sure not to pull the weft strands too tight, you just want to remove any excess slack, not to distort the warp strands. If you see it start to get narrower, pull out on the weaving to try to bring the weaving back to shape and remember to leave more slack.
