SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Assorted rolls of ribbon 1 1/2" wide ribbon (velvet works very well)
  • Assorted rolls of sheer ribbon 1/2" wide
  • Needle and matching thread
  • 1 Ball of thin natural twine
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Thread the needle and tie a knot in a double stranded about 10" long. Unspool a roll of ribbon. Start at the bottom and go in about 1/2" and insert your needle.
  2. Fold the ribbon over and insert the needle again. Fold the ribbon back over again insert the needle. Pull the thread tight to make it gather as you are folding it. Each time you fold it over, insert the needle into the middle of the ribbon again to create that ribbon candy look. Fold it over and over until you have created the ornament to be as long as you desire.
  3. Once you have completed the ornament, tie your thread into a knot and snip off the ends.
  4. Take your ball of twine and cut an 8" piece. Use an embroidery needle and thread it with the twine. Go underneath the last loop at the top and insert the needle with the twine on it. Make a loop and then tie off at the base at the top folded ribbon. Snip off the end for a clean look.

JOANN HACKS:

  • Double up the layers, by placing a thinner sheer ribbon on top of the bottom thicker ribbon as you make the folds. This will give it a more dimensional, candy look to it.
