Homemade Coffee Cake Donuts

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Topping
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup firmly-packed dark brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • Doughnuts
  • 1/2/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon Wilton Imitation Clear Vanilla Extract

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Prepare doughnut pan with vegetable pan spray.
  2. For topping, in medium bowl, stir together flour, brown sugar, butter, cinnamon and salt until thoroughly combined and mixture feels like wet sand. Set aside.
  3. For doughnut batter, in large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and baking soda. In medium bowl, whisk together eggs, sour cream, vegetable oil and vanilla. Add egg mixture to flour mixture; stirring until just combined. Fill each donut cup approximately 2/3 full and sprinkle with topping.

  4. Bake 11-14 minutes or until the tops of the doughnuts spring back when touched. Let cool in pan 4-5 minutes before removing.
  5. For glaze, in small bowl, whisk together confectioners' sugar, milk and vanilla. Drizzle glaze over doughnuts. Doughnuts are best served fresh.
