SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Sewing notions
  • Iron
  • Rotary cutter & cutting board
  • 1 Everything Mary 2 pack round wood handles
  • 1/2 yard fleece
  • 1/3 yard cotton lining
  • 1/3 yard interfacing
  • Oval template

DIRECTIONS:

Cut fleece: 1 @ 13" H x 30" W, outer
1 @ 3 1/2" H x 30" W, upper inside
1 @ 4" x 16", handle loops
1 @ 8" x 10", oval, bottom
Cut lining: 1 @ 10 1/2" H x 30" W, lining sides
1 @ 8" x 10", oval, bottom
Fuse WS of lining to interfacing.
Handle loops: Fold long edges in 1/2" then fold length in half. This will create a 1 1/2" strip with folded edges. Sew close to both edges. Cut length in half. Fold one 8" strip over a wood handle. Match raw ends. Sew sides of strap together directly under handle. Sew ends together. Repeat. Set aside.
RST fleece 3 1/2" x 30", upper inside to 10 1/2" x 30", lining sides, long edges together. Match corners and raw edges. Sew 1/2" SA. Fold seam toward fleece and topstitch 1/4" from seam. Fold in half and mark the top center. Fold 13" x 30" outer in half and mark the top center.
RST lining with fleece top and 13" x 30" fleece outer. Match fleece top raw edges and centers. Mark 2" in from each corner and 1 1/2" either side of center. Sew between the marks. This will leave the center and the back open to accept the straps for the handles. Open the panels.
RST match the sides of the lining together from the bottom corners to the top corners of fleece. Repeat with the outer fleece panel sides. Sew 1/2" SA. Trim the seams to 1/4". Fold WST outer over liner. Pin the bottom edges of the liner and outer matching the seams. Baste 1/4" from edges.
Set in handles: At openings for handle straps along top edge of tube fold in edges to match seam. Slide a handle strap into opening between outer and liner by back seam and second handle strap in opening in center of front. Make sure that the strap extends at least 1 1/4" below the top seam of the outer. Topstitch around the bag tube close to the top seam. Topstitch a second line 1" down from top seam. This will catch the handle straps in twice.
Turn the bag inside out.
WST bottom oval lining to bottom oval outer. Fold oval to find quarter marks. Fold bag tube to find quarters of bottom edges. RST match quarter marks of oval with quarter marks on tube. Match raw edges. 10" L side to side, 8" W front to back. Sew 1/2" SA. Zig zag stitch to finish edge.
Turn RSO.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Do you provide a template I love the looks of this bag and I can see myself making several of them, but the pattern calls for an 8x10 oval template. Do you provide that or do I need to come up with one on my own?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from To Jahjah WS is wrong side of fabric. RST is right sides together.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Useful Project I haven't made it yet, looks like a very fun and useful project. My only question is what do all the acronyms in the directions stand for? Is there a cheat sheet somewhere accessible.
