SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 18" diameter embroidery hoop (or smaller size, if desired)
  • 2 yds 20" wide Pellon Foam Flex interfacing
  • 2 yds each interior and exterior home decor fabric
  • Craft paper
  • Scissors
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Ruler
  • Curved needle (optional)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Create template from hoop by tracing interior for circumference. Add 1/2" seam allowance around entire circle.
  2. Measure circumference of hoop. Create 20" x circumference rectangle for template. Add 1/2" seam allowance to each short end.
  3. Cut two rectangles 6" wide x 5" tall x 15" in from each short edge on one long side (these will be the openings for the hoop “handles").
  4. Cut one interfacing, one interior and one exterior out of circle and rectangle templates.
  5. Baste interfacing to WS of rectangle and circle. Sew short-sides WST of rectangle. Sew circle to un-notched end of rectangle. Sew interior rectangle and circle together as with exterior.
  6. Sew interior and exterior baskets right-sides together at “handle" openings only. Clip corners and turn piece right-side out. Baste interior and exterior pieces together at top edge. Top-stitch around handle openings through all layers.
  7. Fold over top, unfinished edge 1", then 1" again toward inside of basket, encasing hoop. Hand stitch casing closed.
