SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Blonde Synthetic Ponytail Hair Wig, heat resistant
  • Rit DyeMore Synthetic Fiber Dye: Kentucky Sky & Super Pink or your favorite colors
  • Two 3-quart cook pots
  • Measuring cup
  • Plastic or metal stirring spoon
  • Large bowl for drying wig
  • Rubber gloves
  • Paper towels
  • Mild detergent
  • Plastic table cover

DIRECTIONS:

  1. When dyeing synthetic fibers, use the cook top method of dyeing.
  2. Cover counter top around stove with plastic or paper towels. Gather supplies.
  3. Fill cook pots with 8 cups hot water.
  4. Add one bottle Kentucky Sky to one pot and one bottle Super Pink to other pot. Shake dye bottles before pouring. Stir well.
  5. Heat dye baths to just below simmering. Maintain this temperature during the dyeing process.
  6. Test dye color by dipping a few strands of hair from underneath portion of the wig. If color is too light, add more dye; if it is too dark, add more water.
  7. When satisfied with the color, dip one ponytail in the blue dye bath for about 15 minutes. The rules of color mixing apply. Blonde (yellow) hair dipped in the blue dye turns green. Be gentle when dipping to avoid tangling the hair. Continue dipping until satisfied with the color.
  8. Remove ponytail and, wearing rubber gloves, carefully squeeze out excess dye.
  9. Then, dip other ponytail in the pink dye bath. The blonde hair will turn a coral color. Continue gently dipping hair for about 15 minutes until the desired color is achieved.
  10. Remove ponytail and, wearing rubber gloves, carefully squeeze out excess dye.
  11. Rinse ponytails under cold running water, one at a time, until water runs clear. Then gently wash ponytails in warm water with mild detergent and rinse.
  12. Hang wig to dry over a large bowl. When dry, brush hair to remove any tangles.
