Braid the 3 strips together. Cut a length of D and tie around end of braid to secure, then wrap the length of D around end of braid for about 1” (2.5 cm), thread end of length to inside of wraps to secure. Sew braid to hair.

FLOWER

(make 3 – 1 with B and 2 with F)

Ch 7.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—6 sc. Row 2: (Slip st, ch 1, 2 hdc) in first sc (first petal made), *ch 1, (slip st ch 1, 2 hdc) in next sc; repeat from * across—6 petals. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. With tail, sew side of first petal to side of last petal, then thread remainder of tail through bases of petals and pull to gather. Sew flower to top of hair.

 

EAR (make 2)

With A, ch 2.

Row 1: Work 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. Sew ears in place.

 

DRESS

Beginning at top, with B, ch 25. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—24 sc. Rows 2–9: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. Row 10: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), working in back loops only, 2 dc in first sc, 3 dc in each remaining sc across, turn—72 dc. Row 11: Ch 1, sc in each dc across, turn. Row 12: Ch 3, working in back loops only, dc in each sc across, turn. Rows 13–22: Repeat last 2 rows 5 times. Row 23: Repeat Row 11. Row 24: Slip st in next sc, skip next sc, 3 hdc in next sc, *skip next sc, slip st in next sc, skip next sc, 3 hdc in next sc; repeat from * across to last sc, slip st in last sc. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing back seam (but, do not sew back seam until instructed).

Skirt Ruffle

Row 1: With right side facing, hold dress upside down, join E with slip st in first unworked front loop of Row 11, ch 3, dc in same st as joining, dc in next front loop, *2 dc in next front loop, dc in next front loop; repeat from * across, turn. Rows 2 and 3: Ch 3, dc in each dc across, turn. Fasten off, leaving a long tail. With D, work another ruffle in unworked front loops of Row 15. With E, work another ruffle in unworked front loops of Row 19.

Sew side edges of dress together for back seam. With tails, sew edges of ruffles together.

Collar Ruffle

With B, ch 37.

Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—36 sc. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in first sc, 2 dc in each remaining sc across, turn—72 dc. Row 3: *Ch 1, slip st in next dc; repeat from * across. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Note: You may find it easier to place the dress on the doll before attaching the collar ruffle. With tail, sew short edges together for back seam of collar. Pin collar evenly to top of dress, matching back seams and center fronts. Sew center 6 stitches of collar ruffle to center 6 stitches of top of dress on the front and the back, leave remaining portion of collar ruffle unsewn for armholes.

 

 

WAIST TIE

With F, ch 50. Row 1: Hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, do not fasten off; hold tie at left side of waist of dress to work in unworked front loops of Row 9, hdc in each unworked loop of Row; ch 50, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across. Fasten off. Tie ends of waist tie into a large bow.

FINISHING

Weave in ends. Sew rings to ears for earrings. Necklace: String about 12” (30.5 cm) of beads onto strong sewing thread and tie ends of thread together securely. Place on doll and sew a few stitches at back of neck to secure. Place clothing and accessories on doll.

Embroider Face

With C, embroider satin stitch eyes and couched stitch eyebrows. With A, embroider satin stitch nose, With D, embroider a couched stitch smile. With red crayon, gently rub color onto face for cheeks.
