Bandana Embroidered Journal Cover

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Bandana
  • Bleach
  • Scissors
  • Journal, 6.97"x 8.54"
  • Ruler
  • Iron
  • Sewing machine
  • Coordinating thread
  • Water soluble marker
  • Embroidery thread
  • Embroidery needle

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a plastic container, mix one-part bleach, two-parts water.
  2. Submerge the bandana into the water/bleach solution for a minute or two. Remove and ring excess solution from it.
  3. Allow wet bandana to sit for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Wash the bandana thoroughly. Allow to dry.
  5. Lay the bandana out on a flat surface.
  6. Place the journal on top of the bandana, centering it.
  7. Draw a line 1/2" from the top and bottom of the journal, the entire length of the bandana.
  8. Cut out this piece.
  9. Fold over 1/4" along the top and bottom of the piece and iron flat. Fold over again 1/4" and again, iron flat.
  10. Lay the journal closed and centered on the fabric piece. Mark where the fabric meets the end of the journal cover.
  11. Remove the journal. Fold the fabric in at the lines made at both ends and iron flat.
  12. On one end of the cover, use the water soluble marker to draw out the words “Stay Wild" or any other desired words.
  13. Embroider along the words with a chain stitch.
  14. When the embroidery is finished, sew along the top and bottom edges of the cover, creating pockets at each end where folded.
  15. Insert the journal's cover into the pockets of the bandana cover.
