SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Vanna’s Choice, Lion Brand® Yarn: Silver Heather, Colonial Blue, Charcoal Grey, Terracotta
  • Crochet hook, H8/5.00mm
  • Black fleece 1/2 yard
  • Tan fleece 1/4 yard
  • Wood board for mounting
  • Pattern templates
  • Scrap cardboard
  • Sewing machine
  • Color coordinating thread
  • Medium pom pom maker
  • Brown safety eyes
  • FiberFill
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun/glue sticks

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Use a 1/4" seam allowance throughout.

  2. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
  3. Using the pattern templates, cut out each of the pattern pieces in the tan and black fleece.
  4. Begin by sewing the snout pieces together. Sew together sides A on the snout sides. Then sew together sides B of the snout sides and the snout bottom. Then sew sides C on the snout sides and snout top.
  5. Sew the darts on the nose piece. Then sew the nose into the middle of the snout piece. Set the snout aside.
  6. Sew the ear front middle piece inside of the ear front piece for each ear. Then with right sides together, sew the ear front pieces to the ear back pieces. Turn the ears right side out. Set the ears aside.
  7. Sew each of the darts on the bear face pieces, not including the ear openings.
  8. Sew together sides D of the bear face piece. Then sew together sides E of the bear face piece.
  9. Sew the bear’s snout into the middle of the bear’s face.
  10. Pin half of the ear into the ear opening, and sew the dart. Repeat for the other side. Set aside the bear face.
  11. Attach the safety eyes into the bear’s face.
  12. Sew together sides F of the side and top pieces. Then sew together sides G.
  13. Sew the bear face and snout pieces into the back of the bear’s head pieces.
  14. Cut a piece of scrap cardboard with the pattern template. Set aside.
  15. Sew the back of the head into the front of the head, leaving a gap wide enough to fit the cardboard piece into.
  16. Place the cardboard piece inside the head, against the back of the bear’s head for stability. Stuff the rest of the bear’s head firmly.
  17. Hand stitch up the opening.
  18. Set the bear head aside.
  19. Crochet the hat and scarf with the following patterns.

CROCHET HAT PATTERN
With Terracotta yarn. (Work pattern in the round.)
Create a magic ring.
Row 1: Ch 3, 10 dc into magic ring, sl st into top of ch 3.
Row 2: Ch 3, 2dc into each st around, sl st into top of ch 3.
Row 3: Ch 3, *dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * to end of row, sl st into top of ch 3.
Row 4: Ch 3, *dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * to end of row, sl st into top of ch 3.
Row 5: Ch 3, *dc in next 3 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * to end of row, sl st into top of ch 3.
Row 6: Ch 3, *dc in next 4 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * to end of row, sl st into top of ch 3.
Row 7: Ch 3, *dc in next 5 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * to end of row, sl st into top of ch 3.
Tie off Terracotta yarn. (From here, the pattern will be turned in between rows.)

Tie on Charcoal Grey yarn.
Row 8: Ch 3, *dc in next 6 sts, 2 dc in next st, repeat from * for the next 26 sts. Turn.
Row 9-13: Ch 3, *fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st, repeat from * to last st in row, 3 dc in last st of row. Turn.
Tie off yarn and weave in tail.
Attach Charcoal Grey yarn into last row of Terracotta yarn, skipping three sts between other half of first Grey row.
Row 9-13: Ch 3, *fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st, repeat from * to last st in row, 3 dc in last st of row. Turn.
Row 14-16: Ch 3, *fpdc in next st, bpdc in next st, repeat from * around all stiches around the hat. Turn.
Tie off Charcoal Grey yarn, weave in ends.
Create pom pom with Colonial Blue yarn and tie into top of hat.

CROCHET SCARF PATTERN
With Terracotta Yarn.
Ch 15.
Row 1-6: Ch 3, dc in each st to end of row. Turn.
Tie off Terracotta yarn.
Tie on Colonial Blue yarn.
Repeat rows 1-6.
Tie off Colonial Blue yarn.
Tie on Silver Heather yarn.
Repeat rows 1-6.
Tie off Silver Heather yarn.
Tie on Charcoal Grey yarn.
Repeat rows 1-6.
Tie off Charcoal Grey yarn. Repeat this pattern until scarf reaches desired length.

Hot glue the hat into the bear’s head.
Wrap the scarf behind the bear’s head and knot it under the bear’s chin. Hot glue the scarf in place under the bear’s chin.
Hot glue the bear’s head to a piece of wood for mounting.

  • Be sure to check the shape of the bear’s head while stuffing. Fleece will stretch and too much stuffing can distort the shape of the head.
  • Check that the crochet hat will fit the bear’s head as it is being made. Add or subtract stitches to make it fit snugly.
