SHAWL

Make an adjustable ring as follows: Wrap yarn around your finger with the yarn tail to the left and under the working yarn. Insert hook through the circle from front to back. Using the working yarn, yarn over and pull up a loop. Row 1: (3 sc, ch 2, 3 sc) in ring; tighten beginning yarn tail to close ring. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to ch- space, (sc, ch 3, sc) in ch-space, sc in each remaining st. Row 3: Ch 5 (counts as dtr here and throughout), turn, 2 dtr in same st. dtr in each st to ch-space, (3 dtr, ch 2, 3 dtr) in ch-space, dtr in each remaining st to last st, 3 dtr in last st. Row 4: Ch 1, turn, 2 sc in first st, sc in each st to ch-space, (sc, ch 2, sc) in ch- space, sc in each remaining st to last st, 2 sc in last st. Rows 5-46: Repeat Rows 2-4 fourteen times. Row 47: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to ch-space, 3 sc in ch-space, sc in each remaining st. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Tassels (make 3) Step 1: Wrap yarn around a 5" (12.75 cm)-wide piece of cardboard 30 times. Step 2: Cut a 24" (61 cm) length of yarn. Tie the length of yarn snugly around the top of the tassel, leaving ends for attaching to shawl. Step 3: Using sharp scissors, cut the bottom ends of yarn that are wrapped around the cardboard opposite the tied end. Remove the tassel from cardboard. Step 4: Cut a 25" (63.5 cm) length of yarn. Wrap yarn snugly around tassel 8-10 times, just below the tied end. Tie knot and tuck ends inside tassel. Step 5: Trim tassel ends evenly. With yarn needle, attach tassels at each of three shawl points. Weave in all loose ends.
