DIRECTIONS:

All seams are 5/8" unless stated.
  1. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
  2. Cut 2 Butterfly 27" X 24". Cut into a shape of a butterfly wing. The 27" goes along the arm held straight out. Make a straight line down 2-1/2" from one end of the 27" length, a curve line to start the design of the butterfly wing. Complete the wing design.
  3. Press the stitch witchery to the different colors before cutting out the colorful shapes. Cut different shapes to mimic colors of a butterfly wing, alternating colors. Plan out where the shapes are going then press to the right side of the base wing.
  4. Press maroon and silver fabric to stitch witchery, cut out circles of maroon, smaller silver circles. Arrange at the bottom of the wing and press to bottom of wing.
  5. Cut and sew sparkle netting to 4 of the green fabric pieces.
  6. Cut 2, 6-3/4" of the 1/4" elastic. Fold in half, attach 5" from the edge of wing so that it can hang from the thumb.
  7. Cut 2 back wing support 4" X 5" out of scrap fabric, 1 heavy fusible. Press the pieces together so that the fusible is between the two outer black fabrics. Curve one end slightly to fit comfortable at the neckline. Cut the 3/8" elastic into 2 pieces. Sew elastic 1/2" from each edge, top and bottom. Your arms go through the elastic for support.
  8. Tutu: Cut 8 layers 13-1/2" or desired length, use full the width of fabric. Sew two pieces together for each layer, gather the four layers together to 33" waist, cut 1 piece 13-1/2" out of lining. Sew lining together, gather to 33" waist. Cut waistband 3-3/4" X 33" out of lining and sparkle netting. Cut elastic to fit waist or 22" for a size 6. Stay stitch lining and netting together to be treated like one fabric.
  9. Sew netting, lining together. Make a casing for the waistband, attach to the skirt, leaving an opening to insert elastic.
