SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 yd ea. - Wide cord fabric, light fusible interfacing
  • 1/2 yd ea. - Lining and fusible fleece interfacing
  • 3 yds - webbing
  • 4 - D-rings
  • 2 - buckles for front
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Patterns
  • Pattern McCall's M7207

DIRECTIONS:

    (1/2" seam allowance)
  1. To print the patterns, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).
  2. Cut 2 ea - pattern from cord fabric and light fusible interfacing.
  3. Cut 2 ea - pattern from lining and fusible fleece interfacing.
  4. Cut 1 ea. - 8" H x 9 1/2" W from cord fabric, lining and light fusible interfacing.
  5. Cut 2 - 5 1/2" x 9 1/2" W from cord fabric and light fusible interfacing for flap
  6. Cut 4 - 2" x 16" from cord fabric for handles.
  7. Fuse interfacing to coordinating pieces.
  8. With RST stitch pocket to lining leaving and opening for turning.
  9. Turn and stitch opening closed.
  10. Cut 2 - 4 1/2" pieces of webbing.
  11. Thread one end of webbing through the bottom part of buckle.
  12. Fold under and stitch.
  13. Pin strap to front of pocket at marks, folding under the webbing 1/2" at bottom of pocket.
  14. Sew strap to bottom of pocket 1" up from bottom.
  15. Center and titch pocket to front of bag 1/4" around side and bottom
  16. With RST sew flap leaving an opening or turning.
  17. Turn and sew opening closed.
  18. Cut 2 - 7" pieces of strap
  19. Thread one end of strap through the remaining top piece of buckle.
  20. Fold under and stitch.
  21. Pin straps on marks on flaps, and stitch in place.
  22. With RST, pin flap along the edge of pocket top having the buckles facing the front of bag.
  23. Stitch in place at edge of flap and again 1" away from edge.
  24. Fold flap down over pocket and buckle.
  25. Cut 2 - 7 1/2" pieces of webbing for back.
  26. Thread each piece through 2-D rings and stitch.
  27. Stitch the strap pieces to back at marks.
  28. With RST, pin front to back of main fabric and stitch sides and bottom.
  29. Sew the bottom darts together.
  30. With RST pin front to back of lining fabric, and stitch sides and bottom leaving an opening at bottom for turning.
  31. Stitch the bottom darts.
  32. With RST pin lining to main fabric at top and stitch.
  33. Turn lining to inside, folding the cord fabric into bag 2".
  34. Stitch along the seam line of cord fabric and lining.
  35. Cut 2 - 26" pieces of webbing for back strap.
  36. Fold 1/2"under one short end of each strap and stitch to top center of bag having straps side by side.
  37. Fold 1/2" under opposite ends and thread through the D-rings.
  38. With RST stitch the 2 handles with 1/4" seams leaving an opening in center for turning.
  39. Trim ends and turn.
  40. Stitch openings closed.
  41. Fold each handle in half lengthwise and top stitch, starting and stopping 1 1/2" from ends.
  42. Press open the ends so they are flat.
  43. Stitch straps to top of front and back 3" from center of bag on both sides.
