3-3/4" x 8-1/2" for outer back pocket
3-3/4" x 8-1/2" for outer front pocket

All seam allowances are 1/4" and pieces are sewn right sides together, unless otherwise noted.
  1. Following the manufacturer's instructions, fuse interfacing to the wrong side of corresponding pieces.
  2. Lay the Fabric A outer wallet and Fabric C lining rectangles wrong sides together with raw edges matching. Using the corner template, round the two upper corners of both rectangles and trim. To print the template, click on the "Download Project PDF" button (above).

  3. Assemble the Pockets
  4. Bind one long edge each of the Fabric D outer front pocket and the Fabric C outer back pocket. Press the Fabric B binding strip in half with wrong sides together. Match raw edges of the binding to the raw pocket edge. Stitch. Press the binding to the underside and hand stitch in place.
  5. On the right side of the Fabric A outer wallet, chalk-mark a line across the width 9" below the curved wallet edge. Chalk-mark another line 4-1/2" from the opposite side.
  6. Position the Fabric D outer front pocket with the long raw edge along the lower marked line and stitch. The bulk of the pocket should be toward the curved end of the wallet. Press the pocket over the seam allowance. Baste the side edges in place.
  7. In the same manner, position the Fabric C outer back pocket with the long edges along the upper marked line and stitch. The bulk of the pocket should face the straight short end of the wallet. Press the pocket over the seam allowance. Baste the side edges together.

  8. Assemble the Wallet
  9. Press the Fabric A zipper stop in half to form a 1-1/4" x 1 rectangle. Position the fold over the lower zipper stop and baste in place along the edges.
  10. Position the closed bound zipper edge face down on the Fabric C lining 5-1/2" below the upper edge. The zipper pull should be on the left side. Stitch the zipper in place through the binding.
  11. With wrong sides together, align the Fabric C lining section with the Fabric A outer wallet. Baste the edges together, leaving a gap in the stitching at both zipper ends.
  12. Press under 1/4" on the short unfinished edge of the wallet.
  13. With the zipper open, lap the pressed-under edge over the zipper tape 1/4" Stitch in place. Trim the zipper top if needed.
  14. Fold the wallet with lining sides together just below the outer front pocket. Baste the edges together. Press a light crease at the flap area along the zipper (Fig. 6).

  15. Finishing:
  16. Position the upper edge of lace 3" from the short upper edge of the Fabric A wallet flap. Baste the upper edge in place.
  17. Press under 1/4" on each long edge of the 1" x 8 1/2" Fabric B trim strip. Position the trim over the upper lace edge and stitch in place along both edges.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from lots of potential with this design Though I wasn't able to find all of the suggested fabrics at the time I first made this wallet, it made up beautifully in my own choices. I would not recommend this project for those who have trouble with directions. The biggest hangup is when putting in the zipper. The word binding is mentioned only once when it says to sew through the binding of the zipper. One is supposed to sew the entire side of the zipper and not just the end with the binding. Also, it is extremely difficult to get a zipper foot all the way to the end when doing the second side. Perhaps someone can figure this out for me. With some doing, I finished the project. Also, there is no mention of binding off the raw edges of the wallet. Would be step #15.
