Row 1: Ch 2, hdc 10 into first ch.
Row 2: 2 hdc in each st around.
Row 3: *Hdc in st, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 4: *Hdc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 5: *Hdc in next 3 sts, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 6: *Hdc in next 4 sts, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 7: *Hdc in next 5 sts, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 8: *Hdc in next 6 sts, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 9: *Hdc in next 7 sts, 2 hdc in next st repeat from * to end of row.

Row 17: Turn, ch 2, hdc in every st except for the last 20 sts.
Row 18-23: Turn, ch 2, hdc in each st of previous row.
Row 24: Turn, ch 2, hdc in each st of previous row, ch 20, hdc into first st of the row to complete the opening.

Row 25-28:: Hdc in each st to end of row.
Row 29: *Hdc in next 8 sts, hdc2tog in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 30: *Hdc in next 7 sts, hdc2tog in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 31: *Hdc in next 6 sts, hdc2tog in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 32: *Hdc in next 5 sts, hdc2tog in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 33: *Hdc in next 4 sts, hdc2tog in next st repeat from * to end of row.
Row 34: *Hdc in next 3 sts, hdc2tog in next st repeat from * to end of row.

Cinch the opening closed and weave in ends.
Attach yarn to the top corner of the opening. Sc evenly around the opening. Sl st into the first sc and tie off. Weave in ends.
For added strength and structure, cut a piece of cardboard to the height of the finished bed and long enough to curve around the interior side without blocking the hole made in the front.
Paint cardboard. Let dry.
Form the cardboard into a curve and place inside the bed.

Easy and quick to make!
I just made this cat bed and my kitten loves it! I used two skeins of Bernat Blanket yarn and an 8mm crochet hook and it turned out a decent size, with plenty of room for her to grow into it. I wonder about how large the original pattern intended, as this one with a smaller hook and smaller yarn is already fairly large. The cardboard is a must-have as without it, the bed is a floppy mess with absolutely no structure.

Cute and easy
I love the way this looks, and am getting ready to make one. Noticed several of the comments wished to know the number of stitches at the end of each row. I figured this out, & want to share, since the original poster has not yet answered.
(1) - 10; (2) - 20; (3) - 30; (4) - 40; (5) - 50; (6) - 60; (7) - 70; (8) - 80; (9) - 90; (10) - 100; (11-16) - 100; (17) - 80; (18-23) - 80); (24) - 100; (25-28) - 100; (29) - 90; (30) - 80; (31) - 70; (32) - 60; (33) - 50; (34) - 40; (35) - 30; (37) - 20; (39) - 10.

I wonder what the final dimensions of this cat bed are after completed? The pattern doesn't give a clue. As with other reviewers, it would be nice to have the stitch amount at the end of each row. I also don't get the part where the opening is started. I could figure this all out, but before I start, I want to know how big this is.

Simple Enough
It's nice that Joann's finally has the yarn available online. The instructions are fairly simple. It would be nice if it included the number of stitches at the end of the row, but I think that would easy to figure out prior to starting the project and including some row markers. This may be my next project.

Love the look!
I just read the instructions and it looks really easy to make. I am thinking to cover the cardboard with a piece of cotton cloth instead of painting it and secure it on top and sides.

The pattern does not stop after the crochet instructions and cardboard and paint are so the bed is not floppy. The yarn isn't available online anywhere but it is at the Joann's I go to on transit road in williamsville NY but isn't online and I don't get it. I wish the pattern included how many stiches you should have efter each row but I had no issues. Yarn is a little lricy for how much you need without coupons.

Nice idea but...
Instructions have some gaping holes. First the yarn suggested isn't even available at Joann. Substituting something equivalent there's no way you need 7 skeins. Would be nice if yardage was included. Also the materials include cardboard and paint(?) but after crochet part instructions stop. So I have a large floppy thing and no idea how to make it usable.
