SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2yd 100% cotton denim
  • 2yds rainbow trim
  • Pattern template (download PDF under print description above)
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description on the right.
  2. Cut four of pattern out of fabric (cut two together, twice).
  3. Match pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve using 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with remaining two pieces.
  4. Open pieces and press both seam allowances to the right.
  5. Top stitch down the seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  6. Match front and back pieces right sides together, nesting center front seams.
  7. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner.
  8. Clip across corners, taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  9. Turn mask right side out and press.
  10. Top stitch top and bottom edge of mask, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.
  11. Cut trim into two 1yd pieces. Center trim on each side. Top stitch trim, folding ends so they point outward.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Different material badger mask I thought I’d try this mask but use elastic instead of ties. I cut my elastic 6 1/2 inches for each side. I would make it more like 5 and a half inches. If you want snugger fit

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Denim mask It looks very nice, but the seam down the front will let micro particles in unless it is lined with appropriate blocking material. That's why it feels like you can breath better, because you can. Its barely blocking anything. You might as well just tie a bandana around your face if you want this level of protection. Easier & cheaper

Rated 3 out of 5 by from instructions unclear for trim ties I upcycled blue jean leg, but used flannel as the liner. Couldn't figure out from the instructions how to attach the rainbow ties. Will use pipe cleaner with the next one for a better fit to my nose.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Can't see the back I download the pattern to save file. That way you get the full pattern size of 4" when you print. I would have like to see the back of the mask.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Fit! I made this mask without the trim and used elastic for the ear loops instead. Love the fit. I did leaves the sides open and turned it using the open ends. I think that method is much easier.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Denim Mask directions I agree with Connie that leaving the sides open to turn is easier. I also think its a good way to use use up quilt binding you may have leftover, or other premade tapes, as the ties. sewing the binding on will automatically close the sides.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Comfy & breathable design. I quickly learned the hard way that the straight pleated masks are uncomfortable, difficult to breathe while wearing and fogged up my glasses. I made this today using old jeans that I had stashed away in my sewing cabinet (I’m a fabric hoarder). Rather than add the cloth ties I used 1/2” elastic that I cut to 1/4”. It was my first time sewing denim and it was a bit bulky on the edges so I used a lightweight cotton for inner liner. Turned out great. The template is spot on. I found that there is no need for nose wire in this project because of the countour of the pattern and stiffness of the denim.
