SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
- 1 package of diapers, size 4
- Flannel made into receiving blankets - 2 different patterns
- Yellow ribbon - 1 spool of wide and 1 of thin
- Polka dotted pink ribbon - 1 spool
- 1 Round cardboard Wilton cake plate - 16"
- Small hair rubber bands
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Safety pins or straight pins
- Scissors
- 1 Empty paper towel tube
DIRECTIONS:
- Glue the paper towel tube in the middle of the cake board so it stands straight up.
- Take the rubber bands and tie around 6 rolled up diapers.
- Place the 6 rolls around the base of the cake.
- Roll up more diapers and place around the first 6 rolled diapers to make the second row.
- Roll up more diapers to place around the second row.
- Fold the receiving blanket to about 4" and wrap the folded blanket around the 3 rows of the diapers on the cake board. Secure the blanket around the group of rolls with a safety pin or straight pin.
- Start on the second tier and repeat the process of rolling diapers and placing on top of the first row.
- Finish the top row with 6 rolled diapers.
- Wrap flannel around the two additional rows and secure with safety pins or straight pins.
- Hot glue the shredded paper strands around the base.
- Tuck in shredded paper around the next two tiers.
- Make bows with the yellow and pink ribbons. Hot glue the bows onto the cake.
- Place rattles, books, socks around the diaper cake. You can hot glue the hard items in place and then they can pop off afterwards.
Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:
- Do not hot glue fabric items around the cake such as baby socks. You won't be able to get them off. Instead use safety pins to secure them to the cake.
