SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Canvas
  • Wood letter
  • Acrylic paints: burnt orange, tan, cream
  • Foam brushes
  • Large flat brush
  • Water/paper towels for paint cleanup
  • Hot glue gun/glue sticks
  • Wire cutters
  • Floral garlands

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Use a foam brush to paint the canvas tan. Brush horizontally across the canvas. Once the tan paint is dry, lightly dry brush across the canvas with cream paint to add texture. Allow to dry.
  2. Apply the orange acrylic paint to the wood letter with a foam brush and wipe off any excess with a paper towel. This will give the letter a stained look and allow the woodgrain to show through for added interest. Allow to dry.
  3. Apply hot glue to the back of the letter and adhere it to the center of the canvas.
  4. Use wire cutters to trim pieces off the various garlands. Place them on the canvas around the letter to decide on your layout. Once you have everything laid out, secure them in place by hot gluing them to the canvas.

JOANN Hacks:

  • Test the staining technique with acrylic paint on the back of your letter, you may need to add water to the paint to thin it out or wipe it with a wet paper towel.
