SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Green fabric dye
  • Tie dye basic supplies
  • 1/4 yd 100% cotton fabric
  • Two 10" pieces of 1/4" elastic
  • Pattern template (download PDF)
  • Basic sewing supplies

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Tie dye cotton fabric green. Let dry completely.
  2. Iron dried fabric.
  3. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description for this project.
  4. Cut four pieces of pattern out of fabric (cut 2 together, twice).
  5. Cut two 10" pieces of 1/4" elastic.
  6. Match pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve using 3/8" seam allowance. Repeat with remaining two pieces of fabric.
  7. Open pieces and press both seam allowances to the right.
  8. Topstitch the center seam to stitch down the seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  9. Lay one half of the mask down with the right side facing up. Place one piece of elastic across the fabric 3/4" down from top corners, making sure not to twist elastic. Lay second piece of elastic across fabric 3/4" up from bottom corners. Pin in place.
  10. Match front and back pieces right sides together, matching center front seams at the top and bottom.
  11. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner.
  12. Clip across corners, and clip curves taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  13. Turn mask right side out and press.
  14. Topstitch around the mask 1/4" from the edge, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Preposterous proportions 10" of elastic!? Other patterns say 7" - I'm very disappointed in the lack of precision in all your patterns (which do not print to scale, even when your printer is set to - I measured), and lack of consistency in instructions. Is the 10" of elastic to go around my entire head? And who has time to tie-dye?
