How To Make A Kitty And Mouse Headbands

TOOLS & SUPPLIES

FOR KITTY

• RED HEART® Super Saver®: 1 skein 312 Black.

FOR MOUSE

• RED HEART® Super Saver®: 1 skein each 341 Light Grey A and 724 Baby Pink B.

FOR BOTH

• Susan Bates® Crochet Hook: 5mm [US I-9].
• Plastic headband, fiberfill, wire, yarn needle.
• GAUGE: 14 sts = 4” (10 cm); 8 rows = 4” (10 cm) in sc. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge.
• RED HEART® Super Saver®, E300 available in solid color 7 oz (198 g), 364 yd (333 m); multicolor, heather and print 5 oz (141 g), 244 yd (223 m), flecks 5 oz (141g), 260 yds (238 m) skeins.

Note

1. Kitty Ears are worked in two pieces from lower edge to tip. Two Ears are then sewn together and stuffed with fibrefill. Lower edge is sewn onto a purchased headband._x000B_
2. Mouse Ears are worked in continuous rounds from centre to outside edges._x000B_

Special Stitches

sc2tog = [Draw up a loop in next st] 2 times, yarn over and draw through all 3 loops on hook.

sc3tog = [Draw up a loop in next st] 3 times, yarn over and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

KITTY, KITTY

Ears (Make 4)

Ch 8. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across, turn – 7 sc. Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn. Row 4: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next 3 sc, sc2tog, turn – 5 sc. Row 5: Repeat Row 2. Row 6: Ch 1, sc2tog, sc in next sc, sc2tog, turn – 3 sc. Row 7: Repeat Row 2. Row 8: Ch 1, sc3tog. Fasten off.

FINISHING

Sew 2 Ears together, leaving beginning edge unsewn. Lightly stuff with fiberfill sew closed. Repeat with second Ear. Position lower edge of each Ear evenly spaced apart on headband and sew on securely. Weave in ends.

Ear Back (Make 2)

With A, ch 3, slip st in first ch to form ring. Round 1 (Right Side): Ch 1, 6 sc in ring, slip st in first sc to join. Round 2: Ch 1, 2 sc in each sc around, slip st in first sc – 12 sc. Round 3: Repeat Round 2 – 24 sc. Round 4: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 32 sc. Round 5: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc; repeat from * around, slip st in first sc – 40 sc. Fasten off.

Ear Front (Make 2)

With B, work as for Ear Back through Round 4. Change to A and complete Round 5. Fasten off.

FINISHING

With right sides together, sew Ear Front to Ear Back leaving approximately 1” (3 cm) unsewn. Turn Ears right side out. Cut and position a length of wire to fit around inside edges of each Ear. Secure ends together and slip wire inside each Ear to hold shape. Position lower edge of each Ear evenly spaced apart on headband and sew on securely. Weave in ends.
