  • Bernat® Baby Velvet™ Sizes 6 mos, 12 mos, 18 mos, 24 mos - Terra Cotta Rose (1 ball)
  • Size U.S. 6 (4 mm) circular knitting needles 16" and 24" long or size needed to obtain gauge
  • Size U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) circular knitting needles 16" [40.5 cm] and 24" [61 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge
  • 8 stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

Finished chest 20 (21, 22, 23)"
Note: Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes.

GAUGE: 16 sts and 20 rows = 4" in stocking stitch with U.S. 7 (4.5 mm) needle.

DIRECTIONS:

Notes: The Poncho is knit in one piece from the top down.

With smaller, shorter circular needle, cast on 56 (60-64-68) sts. PM. Join to beg working in rnd.
1st rnd: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Rep last rnd of (K1. P1) ribbing 4 times more. Remove marker.

Change to larger, shorter circular needle and proceed as follows, switching to longer needle when necessary:
1st rnd: *K21 (22-23-23). PM. K7 (8-9-11). PM. Rep from * once more.
2nd rnd: *Knit to 1 st before marker. M1. K1. Slip marker. K1. M1. Rep from * to end of rnd. 64 (68-72-76) sts.
Knit 2 rnds even.
Rep last 3 rnds 12 (13-14-15) times more. 160 (172-184-196) sts.

Divide for Sleeves: Next rnd: *Knit to next marker. Slip next 33 (36-39-43) sts onto waste yarn for Sleeve. Cast on 2 sts. Rep from * once more. 98 (104-110-114) sts rem for Body.

Cont knitting even in rnds until piece measures 8 1/2 (9-11-11)" from beg.

Change to smaller, longer circular needle.
Next 4 rnds: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Cast off loosely in ribbing.

Sleeves
With smaller, shorter circular needle, join yarn to Sleeve sts. *K1. P1 across sleeve sts, pick up and knit 3 (2-3-3) sts across cast on sts at underarm. 36 (38-42-46) sts. Join in rnd, placing a marker on first st.
Next 4 rnds: *K1. P1. Rep from * around.
Cast off loosely in ribbing.
