FINISHING: Cut yarn leaving a tail 15" [38 cm] long. Thread tail through yarn needle and draw through each remaining stitch pulling top tightly to close making the hole as small as possible. Fasten off top of hat. With yarn needle, sew back seam together, carefully aligning edges. Weave in ends.

POMPOM: Cut a 12" [30 cm] piece of yarn and place between middle finger and ring finger (this will be used for tying the pompom). Using yarn double strand, wrap around your four fingers 50 times. Using the 12" [30 cm] piece, tie center tightly. Remove from fingers and cut all loops. Roll between hands and trim with scissors until pompom has a nice round shape. Using yarn needle and tie, attach pompom to top of hat.
