GAUGE: 16 sts + 26 rows = about 4" in St st (k on RS, p on WS).

DIRECTIONS:

NOTES:
Tunic is made in 2 identical pieces: Back and Front.
Each piece is worked back and forth in rows from lower edge upwards.
Collar is worked in rnds on circular needle.

BACK:
With straight needles, cast on 74 (90, 106) sts.
Knit 6 rows.
Beg with a RS (knit) row, work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 15" from beg, end with a WS row as the last row you work.
Shape Armholes
Row 1 (RS): Bind off 11 (13, 15) sts, k to end of row - you will have 63 (77, 91) sts in this row.
Row 2: Bind off 11 (13, 15) sts, p to end of row - 52 (64, 76) sts.
Row 3: Knit.
Row 4: K4 (for armhole border), p to last 4 sts, k4 (for armhole border).
Rep Rows 3 and 4 until armholes measure about 7 (8, 9)", end with a WS row as the last row you work.

Shape Shoulders
Row 1 (RS): Bind off 5 (7, 9) sts, k to last 5 (7, 9) sts, bind off last 5 (7, 9) sts - 42 (50, 58) sts rem.
Cut yarn.
Slip rem sts onto a holder.

FRONT:
Make same as Back, but do not place rem sts onto a holder.

FINISHING:
Collar
Place rem Back and Front sts onto circular needle - 84 (100, 116) sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle.
Work in St st worked in rnds (k every rnd) until collar measures about 9".
Next Rnd: Purl.
Next Rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds twice more.
Bind off.

Sew shoulder seams. Sew side seams, leaving 5" unsewn at lower edge for side slits.

Weave in ends.
