SIZE: Finished Circumference About 15", Hat will stretch to fit a range of baby and toddler sizes
GAUGE:
22 sts = about 4" in St st (k on RS, p on WS) using larger needles.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
DIRECTIONS:
NOTES:Hat is made of 2 Rectangles.
The Rectangles are sewn together, then stitches for ribbing are picked up along lower edge.
2 pom-poms are tied to top of Hat.
RECTANGLES: (make 2)
With larger needles and A, cast on 25 sts.
Rows 1-6: With A and beginning with a RS (knit) row, work in St st for 6 rows.
Rows 7-12: Change to B and continue in St st.
Rows 13-36: Rep Rows 1-12.
Bind off 24 sts, do not bind off last st.
Rotate the piece 90 degrees so that you can work along the side edge.
With B, pick up and k24 sts evenly spaced across side edge - you'll now have 25 sts on your needle. With B and beginning with a WS (purl) row, work in St st for 5 rows.
Rep Rows 1-12 twice, then rep Rows 1-6 once more.
Bind off all sts.
With the stripes aligned in alternate directions, sew Rectangles together along one short side.
Ribbing From RS, with smaller needles and A, pick up and k82 sts evenly spaced across either long edge of seamed piece.
Row 1 (WS): P2, *k2, p2; rep from * to end of row. Row 2: K the knits and p the purls. Rep Row 2 until ribbing measures about 1".
Bind off as you work a Row 2.
FINISHING:
Seam remaining short sides of Hat, including ends of ribbing. Flatten Hat and sew top of Hat closed.
With A and following package directions make 2 pom-poms.
Tie a pom-pom to each top corner of Hat.
Weave in ends.
