SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • LION BRAND® MANDALA® OMBRE Cool 1 ball
  • LION BRAND® knitting needles size 6 (4 mm)
  • LION BRAND® stitch holder
  • LION BRAND® large-eyed blunt needle
  • Spare knitting needle size 6 (4 mm)
SIZE:
About 6 1/2"x 33" (16.5 x 84 cm), unstretched
GAUGE:
39 sts = about 4" (10 cm) over pattern.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:

NOTE:
The Scarf begins as two separate halves. The halves are joined and worked in one piece, then are separated into halves again to work the last 2 1/2" (6.5 cm) of the Scarf.
A 3-needle bind off joins the ends of the Scarf and creates a keyhole opening.

SCARF:
First Half
Cast on 32 sts.
Row 1: *K4, p4; rep from * across.
Row 2: Knit the knit sts and purl the purl sts across.
Rep Row 2 until piece measures about 8 1/2" (21.5 cm) from beg. Slip sts onto spare needle and set aside.

Second Half
Cast on and make same as First Half, but do not slip sts to spare needle.

Joining Row
Knit the knits and purl the purls across the needle; then, being sure that the last 4 sts on your right hand needle are knits AND the first 4 sts on the spare needle are purls or vice versa, work across the sts from the spare needle.
You'll have a total of 64 sts on your needle.

Now continue to rep Row 2 until piece measures about 22" (56 cm) above joining.
Dividing Row: Rep Row 2 across 32 sts; slip remaining 32 sts onto a holder.

First Half
Continue to rep Row 2 across 32 sts for 2 1/2" (6.5 cm), then slip sts to spare needle.

Second Half
Slip sts from holder back onto needle and work second half same as first, but do not slip sts to spare needle.

With RS together, hold in one hand the needle with sts for the second half and the spare needle with the sts for the first half.
With a 3rd needle, knit together 1 st from each needle, *knit together 1 st from each needle, pass first st worked over 2nd to bind off; rep from * across. Cut yarn and pull through remaining st to secure.

FINISHING:
Weave in yarn ends.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple scarf with lots of variations we can make. This is a great pattern. It can be made for the tailored look enthusiasts as well as for those who fancy a bit of frill just by changing the stitches. The changes I made were: making one side of the split 5 inches long and leaving the other 32 stitches on a stitch holder at the place of the split. I used the Kitchener stitch to weave the two pieces together. The sides look different, but very nice.. I will make it in different stitches and color combinations - super fun and easy!
