DIRECTIONS:
NOTES:Two halves are worked separately, then sewn together at back and sides to make the Ruana.
Each half begins at one side edge and is worked across to opposite side edge.
HALVES: (make 2)
Beg at side edge, ch 191.
Row 1 (RS): Hdc in 3rd ch from hook (2 skipped ch do not count as a st) and in each ch across - 189 hdc.
Rows 2-4: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, working in back loops only, hdc in each st across.
Row 5: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, hdc in both loops of first st, hdc in back loop of next st, *hdc in front loop of next st, hdc in back loop of next st; rep from * to last st, hdc in both loops of last st.
Rep Row 5 until piece measures about 13 in. (33 cm) from beg.
Last 4 Rows: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), turn, working in back loops only, hdc in each st across.
Fasten off.
FINISHING:

With RS facing, lay halves side by side onto a flat surface. Following diagram, sew halves together along center back for about 23". Fold piece in half at shoulder line. Place a marker on each side edge about 9" below fold for armholes and about 8" above open edges for side slits. Sew side seams between markers, then remove markers.
Weave in ends.
