Brim

Move marker up as each round is completed. Round 2: [Sc in next 6 (7, 7) sc, 2 sc in next sc] 6 times, sc in last 3 (0, 4) sc—51 (54, 58) sts. Round 3: Sc in each sc around. HAT BAND

With smaller hook and B, ch 10. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each remaining ch across, turn—9 sc. Row 2: Ch 2 (does not count as a st), dc in each sc across, turn. Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each dc across, turn. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until band measures 18 (19, 21)”. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing. With Right Side facing, wrap band around hat just above brim. Sew short ends of band together. Sew band to hat, sewing across top and lower edges of band.

 

FINISHING

Weave in ends.

Hair

Decide which part of the hat you want to be the back (select the part that you want to be seen the least). Place markers on Round 1 of brim, inside hat, placing one on each side of 26 (28, 30) sts centered at back of hat.

 

Attach Hair: Attach a fringe to each of the 26 (28, 30) sts, as follows:

Cut four 12” lengths of C. Hold the lengths together and fold in half. Insert hook, from inside of hat, into one of the stitches, insert hook into the fold of and draw the fold through forming a loop (only draw the fold through, do not draw the strands all the way through). Insert the ends of the strands into the loop and pull to tighten.

 

Tangle Hair: Separate the plies of the strands. comb or brush may help. Pull the plies apart beginning at the bot- tom of each strand. Use the hair ratting technique to tangle the yarn.
