SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd - Main Fabric
  • 1/2 yd - Lining, fusible fleece interfacing, and light fusible interfacing
  • 2 yds. - Webbing
  • 1 pkg. - 1" Velcro
  • 4 - D-rings
  • 1 - 12" zipper
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Patterns

DIRECTIONS:

    (1/2" seam allowance)
  1. Cut 2 ea.of pattern from main fabric and light fusible interfacing.
  2. Cut 2 ea of pattern from lining and fusible fleece interfacing.
  3. Cut 2 - 5" squares from main fabric for outside pocket and light interfacing.
  4. Cut 2 - pocket flap pattern from main fabric and light interfacing.

  6. Fuse the light interfacing to front and back of main fabric.
  7. Fuse the fleece interfacing to the front and back of lining.
  8. Fuse light interfacing to pocket and flap.
  9. With RST, sew pocket using a 1/4" seam leaving an opening for turning.
  10. Turn and Press.
  11. Cut a 1 1/2" piece of Velcro. Stitch the loop side to pocket front 2" from top and in center of pocket.
  12. Place pocket on front centering from sides and top. stitch in place leaving the top open.
  13. With RST, sew pocket flap using a 1/4" seam leaving the straight edge open.
  14. Turn and press.
  15. Sew 1/4" top stitch around pocket flap. Sew the smooth side of velcro to flap lining up with pocket Velcro.
  16. With RST place pocket flap on front of bag with straight edge of flap along top of pocket.
  17. Stitch 1/4" from edge.
  18. For zipper: Lay zipper right side up on table. Place the right side of bag front on top of zipper, and the right side of bag lining to back of zipper. (zipper will be sandwiched between the front of bag and the lining)
  19. Stitch in place using a zipper foot.
  20. Turn the pieces right sides out and press away from zipper.
  21. Topstitch along the zipper on the outside fabric being careful not to stitch too close to zipper teeth.
  22. Place the right side of back of bag and the back piece of lining over zipper. (opposite side of zipper will be sandwiched between bag and lining)
  23. Stitch in place using a zipper foot.
  24. Turn, press away from zipper and topstitch.
  25. Your finished piece, laying flat on table, should have zipper in center with bag front and lining to one side and the bag back and lining to other side.
  26. Cut 2 - 5" pieces from webbing.
  27. Place each piece through 2 D-rings and fold under 1/2" and stitch in place.
  28. Sew these pieces at marks at bottom of back.
  29. With RST, pin front to back of bag.
  30. With RST, pin front lining to back lining.
  31. Stitch the side seams starting at bottom of main fabric, over the zipper and along the lining side seams.
  32. Open zipper half way.
  33. Stitch the bottom seam of main bag, and stitch the lining bottom leaving an opening for turning.
  34. Box the corners by stitching the darts together at bottom and side seam of front and back.
  35. Box the corner for the lining darts at bottom and side seam.
  36. Pull the bag through the lining opening and zipper opening.
  37. Stitch opening closed in lining and insert lining into bag.
  38. Cut the remaining webbing in half. Fold under one short end of each piece and stitch.
  39. Fold bag top down and fasten at velcro.
  40. Mark top of center of bag.
  41. Unfold bag and open zipper.
  42. Fold under raw edges of strap and stitch to top of bag at marks in center.
  43. Place the opposite ends of the straps into D-rings from bottom strap.
