Painted Canvas Tote Bag

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Wear'm, Natural large pocket canvas tote
  • FolkArt® Satin Acrylic Paint - 2925 Ink Spot
  • FolkArt® Satin Acrylic Paint - 2740 Fire Coral (Light Coral Color)
  • DecoArt Americana fabric painting medium
  • Everything Mary tan microfiber braided handles
  • Dritz® Liquid Stitch permanent fabric adhesive
  • Clips or clothespins
  • Paintbrush
  • Masking tape

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Prepare each of the paint colors by mixing the paint with the fabric paint medium according the the directions on the bottle.
  2. Use the masking tape to tape off the Ink Spot section on the bottom of the tote bag. Paint with the Ink Spot paint. Remove the tape and allow to dry.
  3. Tape off the Fire Coral section and paint. Remove the tape and allow to dry.
  4. Tape off the (Light Coral) section and paint. Remove the tape and allow to dry.
  5. Cut the straps of the canvas tote, leaving 2" of strap on each side.
  6. Wrap the leftover canvas strap through the metal loops of the braided handles. Glue the canvas strap on the inside of the tote with the fabric adhesive. Repeat for each side of both straps. Clip in place and allow to dry.

JOANN Hacks:

  • Work carefully around the masking tape, brushing from the tape in toward the tote to help prevent bleeding.
