Beginner 1-2 Hours
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • Scissors
  • Cardstock or thin cardboard
  • Variety of colored paper
  • Twine/string
  • Acrylic paint
  • Glue stick
  • Paper towels

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Begin by tracing two identical circles on a piece of cardstock or thin cardboard, about 5 1/2" in diameter.
  2. Use scissors to cut out the two circles.
  3. Decorate the circles using a paint scraping technique or by creating a colored paper mosaic.
  4. Paint Scraping Technique: Use a paper towel to protect your work surface. Apply small amounts of paint in several different colors in a line across the top of the circle. Using the edge of a piece of cardstock, smear the paint down the circle, creating curvy lines or any desired pattern. Avoid smearing the cardstock on the paint more than once to avoid mixing the colors too much. Allow paint to dry for about 30 minutes.
  5. Colored Paper Mosaic: Cut colored paper into shapes, making sure to vary the sizes and shapes of the pieces. Collage the shapes together on the circle, alternating the colors to avoid putting the same color next to one another. Use glue stick to attach the pieces to the circle.
  6. Once you have decorated both circles, attach them back to back using a glue stick.
  7. Using scissors, poke two small holes in the center of the circle. Thread twine/string through the holes and tie together in a knot.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from how about a visual This seems like a great idea for a fun project. However, it would be nice to have a video clip to demonstrate the results.
