Beginner Weekend Project

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • RED HEART® Super Saver® yarn: 1 skein each of Grenadine A, Petal Pink B, Lemon C, Spring Green D, Aruba Sea E
  • RED HEART® Pom and Tassel Maker
  • Rug canvas, 4 threads per inch
  • Lampshade 7-1/2" (19cm) tall, 29" (.7m) circumference
  • Tapestry needle

DIRECTIONS:

Notes:
Following the instructions provided with the Pom and Tassel Maker, make 22 - 2" (5cm) pompoms with each of the five yarn colors. Do not trim the tying cords; leave them long. If your lampshade is a different size, you may need more or fewer pompoms.
  1. Cut a piece of rug canvas 7" (18cm) wide by 29-1/2" (.75) long. If your lampshade is a different size, cut your canvas 1/2" (1.3cm) less than the height of the shade and 1/2" (1.3cm) longer than the circumference of the shade.
  2. Form the canvas into a cylinder, overlapping the ends 1/2"(1.3cm). Use yarn and a tapestry needle to sew the ends together.
  3. Beginning with the top row of pompoms, use tying cords to tie pompoms to canvas. Space pompoms evenly.
  4. Continue with each subsequent row of pompoms, using the photo as a guide for arrangement.
  5. When all pompoms are tied in place, trim tying cords.
  6. Slip canvas cover over lampshade. Secure with glue if desired.
