1 Set Susan Bates DoublePointed Knitting Needles: 5mm [US 8]

Cable needle
Yarn needle 2 - 4” (10 cm) Styrofoam® balls

GAUGE: 16 sts = 4” (10 cm); 22 rows = 4” (10 cm); in Stockinette stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

Cabled Holiday Ball measures: 4” (10 cm) in diameter.

Notes
Cover the Styrofoam® balls with clear plastic wrap, this makes it easier to insert the balls into the knitted fabric covers. Cover is worked as 3 repeats (1 for each
needle).

Special Stitches
4- Stitch Cable = Slip 2 sts to cable needle and hold in back of work, k2, k2 from cable needle.
M1 = Make 1 (Increase). Lift strand between needles to left-hand needle and work strand through the back loop, twisting it to prevent a hole, knit or purl as indicated by pattern st.
K2tog = Knit 2 sts together.

CABLED HOLIDAY BALL COVER
Cast on 12 stitches (place 4 sts on each of 3 needles).
Join, being careful not to twist sts.
Round 1: Knit.
Round 2: *K1, m1, k2, m1, k1; repeat from * twice more - 18 sts.
Round 3: Knit.
Round 4: *K1, m1, k4, m1, k1; repeat from * twice more - 24 sts.
Round 5: *K1, p1, 4-st cable, p1, k1; repeat from * twice more.
Round 6: *K1, m1, p1, k4, p1, m1, k1; repeat from * twice more - 30 sts.
Round 7: Knit, purling sts on either side of cables.
Round 8: *K2, m1, p1, k4, p1, m1, k2; repeat from * twice more - 36 sts.
Round 9: Knit, working 4-st cable and purling sts on either side of cables.
Round 10: *K3, m1, p1, k4, p1, m1, k3; repeat from * twice more - 42 sts.
Round 11: Knit, purling sts on either side of cables.
Round 12: *K1, m1, k3, p1, k4, p1, k3, m1, k1; repeat from * twice more - 48 sts.

Round 27: *K1, k2tog, k3, p1, k4, p1, k3, k2tog, k1; repeat from * twice more - 48 sts.
Round 28: Knit, purling sts on either side of cables.
Round 29: *K1, k2tog, k2, p1, 4-st cable, p1, k2, k2tog, k1; repeat from * twice more - 42 sts.
Round 30: Knit, purling sts on either side of cables.
Round 31: *K1, k2tog, k1, p1, k4, p1, k1, k2tog, k1; repeat from * twice more - 36 sts.
Round 32: Knit, purling sts on either side of cables.
Round 33: Knit, working 4-st cable and purling sts on either side of cables.

FINISHING
Cut a length of yarn and thread tail through yarn needle. With yarn needle, run remaining 36 sts through. Slip cabled ball cover over Styrofoam® ball and pull stitches closed. Knot to secure. Using yarn needle, draw cast on stitches together. Knot to secure.
Weave in all ends.
