PANTS
Boot Sole
With A, ch 3; join with slip st in first ch to form a ring. Round 1: Ch 2 (counts as first hdc here and throughout), 7 hdc in ring; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—8 hdc. Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, 2 hdc in each st around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—16 hdc. Round 3: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in next st, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next st; repeat from * around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—24 hdc. Round 4: Ch 2, hdc in same st as join, hdc in next 2 sts, *2 hdc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts; repeat from * around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch— 32 hdc.

Boot Leg
Round 5: Ch 2, hdc in each st around. Place marker for beginning of round and move marker up as each round is completed. Round 6: Hdc in each st around. Repeat last round until piece measures 2¼" (5.5 cm), working sc in last st of last round; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off.
Pant Cuff
With B, ch 32; taking care not to twist, join with slip st in first ch to form a ring. Round 1: Ch 2, hdc in each ch around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—32 hdc. Round 2: Ch 2, hdc in each st around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off.

First Pant Leg
With right sides facing and matching sts, position Round 2 of pant cuff over last round of boot leg. Round 1: Working through both thicknesses, join C with slip st in any st, ch 2, hdc in each st around. Place marker for beginning of round and move marker up as each round is completed. Round 2: Hdc in each st around. Repeat last round until pant leg measures 2" (5 cm), working sc in last st of last round; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Fasten off.
Second Pant Leg
Work same as first pant leg but do not fasten off.
Upper Pants
Hold pant legs with right sides and first sts together. Round 1: Working through both thicknesses from wrong side, hdc in first 8 sts; working in pant leg with right side facing, hdc in next 24 sts around to other pant leg, hdc in remaining hdc of other pant leg—48 hdc. Place marker for beginning of round and move marker up as each round is completed. Round 2: Hdc in each st around. Repeat last round until upper pants measure 2" (5 cm), working sc in last st of last round; join with slip st in top of beginning ch. Do not fasten off.

Waistband
Round 1: Ch 4 (counts as first tr), tr in each st around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—48 tr. Rounds 2 and 3: Ch 2, hdc in each st around; join with slip st in top of beginning ch—48 hdc. Fasten off.

Suspenders
Lay piece flat and place markers on front and back for suspenders. Row 1: Join C to first marked st on front, ch 40, slip st in corresponding marked st on back, turn, hdc in each ch across to front, slip st in next st of waistband, turn. Row 2: Hdc in each st across, slip st in next st of waistband. Fasten off. For 2nd suspender, repeat between remaining set of markers.

Belt
With A, ch 3. Row 1: Dc in 3rd ch from hook, *dc in bottom loops of previous dc; repeat from * until belt measures 20" (51 cm). Fasten off.

Buckle
Round 1: With D, ch 9, dc in 6th ch from hook, ch 1, dc in first ch. Fasten off.
FINISHING
Referring to photograph as a guide, weave belt through Row 1 of waistband and buckle. Weave in ends.
Optional: Cut 2 strands of florist’s wire slightly longer than suspenders. Weave wires through suspenders, working ends into waistband.
