SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Painting Canvas, size of your choice
  • 1 Color of Acrylic paint in a school color
  • Black gloss paint
  • Small detail paintbrush
  • Medium Paintbrush
  • Staple gun
  • Screwdriver & pliers
  • Scissors or X-acto® knife

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Using the screwdriver and pliers, remove the staples from the back of the canvas and set the canvas aside.
  2. With the medium paintbrush and school paint color, paint the front and sides of the wooden frame from the canvas and let it dry.
  3. With the canvas finished white side up, lightly create your phrase with pencil in the center of the canvas. Make sure not to get too close to the edges of the canvas with your phrase (check your layout with holding the frame over your designed area).
  4. Paint the words in using your detailed paintbrush and black gloss paint.
  5. Once it and the frame are dry, reattach the canvas on the backside of the painted frame with using the staple gun. Trim off the excess canvas with scissors or an X-acto knife.

JOANN Hacks:

  • When you staple the canvas back on the frame, start in the upper middle of the canvas and place the first staple. Then, lightly stretch the canvas and staple in the center of the bottom of the canvas. Repeat this all the way around the canvas stapling from the center edge on each side and moving out to the edges until done.
