SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

• RED HEART Super Saver: 1 skein Soft White A
• RED HEART Super Saver: 1 skein Minty B
• Susan Bates: Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8]
• Thick hair tie
• Yarn needle

GAUGE: 14 sc = 4" [10 cm]; 9 sc rows = 4" [10 cm].
CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.

DIRECTIONS:

Special Abbreviations
dec (decrease) = [Insert hook into next stitch and pull up a loop] twice
yarn over and draw through all three loops on hook - 1 stitch decreased. inc (increase) = work 2 sc into the same stitch.

STRIPED SCRUNCHIE: With A, slip st around hair tie; ch 1.
Round 1: Work 50 sc around hair tie; join with slip st to 1st sc - 50 sc.
Cut A. Join B to any st with a slip st.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, *hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next 2 sts, dc in next st; repeat from * to last st, hdc in last st, join with slip st to 1st sc.
Fasten off.
Tie

Note: Work with both colors at once, carrying the color that is not being used along the row by crocheting over it. At the end of each row, pull the unused color taut to tighten up the edges. Begin the next row “ch 1" with the new color for that row.
With A, ch 2.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn - 1 sc.
Row 2: With B, ch 1, inc, turn - 2 sc.
Row 3: With A, ch 1, inc, sc to end of row, turn - 3 sc.
Row 4: With B, repeat Row 3 - 4 sc.
Row 5: With A, repeat Row 3 - 5 sc.
Row 6: With B, ch 1, sc to end of row, turn.
Row 7: With A, repeat Row 6.
Row 8: With B, repeat Row 6.
Row 9: With A, ch 1, dec, sc to end of row, turn - 4 sc.
Row 10: With B, repeat Row 9 - 3 sc.
Row 11: With A, ch 1, sc to end of row, turn.
Repeat Row 11 until tie measures 5 1/2" long, ending after working a B row.
Row 12: With A, ch 1, inc, sc to end of row, turn - 4 sc.
Row 13: With B, repeat Row 12 - 5 sc.
Row 14: With A, ch 1, sc to end of row, turn.
Row 15: With B, repeat Row 14.
Row 16: With A, repeat Row 14.
Row 17: With B, ch 1, dec, sc to end of row, turn - 4 sc.
Row 18: With A, repeat Row 17 - 3 sc.
Row 19: With B, repeat Row 17 - 2 sc.
Row 20: With A, ch 1, dec - 1 sc.
Fasten off.

FINISHING:
With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
Knot Tie over the first 4 sc of Round 2 on Scrunchie.

SOLID COLOR SCRUNCHIE
With A or B, slip st around hair tie; ch 1.
Round 1: Work 50 sc around hair tie; join with slip st to 1st sc - 50 sc.
Round 2: Ch 1, sc in next 4 sts, *hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next 2 sts, dc in next st; repeat from * to last st, hdc in last st, join with slip st to 1st sc - 10 hdc, 18 dc, 18 tr, 4 sc.
Fasten off.
Tie

Ch 2.
Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook, turn - 1 sc.
Row 2: Ch 1, inc, turn - 2 sc.
Row 3: Ch 1, inc, sc to end of row, turn.
Rows 4-5: Repeat Row 3 - 5 sc.
Rows 6-8: Ch 1, sc to end of row, turn.
Row 9: Ch 1, dec, sc to end of row, turn - 4 sc.
Row 10: Ch 1, dec, sc to end of row, turn - 3 sc.
Row 11: Ch 1, sc to end of row, turn.
Repeat Row 11 until tie measures 5 1/2" long.
Rows 12-13: Ch 1, inc, sc to end of row, turn.
Rows 14-16: Ch 1, sc to end of row, turn.
Row 17: Ch 1, dec, sc to end of row, turn - 4 sc.
Rows 18-19: Repeat Row 17 - 2 sc.
Row 20: Ch 1, dec - 1 sc.
Fasten off.

FINISHING
With yarn needle, weave in all loose ends.
Knot Tie around first 4 sc of Round 2 on Scrunchie.
