SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1/2 yd 54" Home Dec fabric
  • 1/2 yd muslin
  • Craft-size package of polyester batting
  • Rotary cutter, ruler & mat
  • Air erasable fabric marker
  • Thread to match pillow fabric
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Sewing machine with walking foot
  • Iron & pressing surface

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut one 18"x 18" piece of the Home Dec fabric and one of the muslin.
  2. Cut two 18"x 18" pieces of the batting.
  3. Using the fabric marker, draw curved lines starting at the bottom left corner then fanning out across the top and right side of the square. See picture for inspiration.
  4. Place the muslin on the work surface, layer the two batting pieces on the muslin then layer the Home Dec fabric face up on the batting to form the sandwich.
  5. Pin the sandwich together around the edges and across the surface of the pillow top.
  6. Place the walking foot on the machine and set the machine for a straight stitch with a stitch length of 3.0.
  7. Following the drawn lines, sew along each line. The double batting makes the sandwich quite thick so the walking foot will be very helpful.
  8. Cut the sandwich down to 17"x 17".
  9. Cut the remaining Home Dec fabric into two 11"x 17" pieces.
  10. To make the envelope backing, make a 1" hem along one 17" side of each backing piece.
  11. Place the pillow top face up on the work surface and the two backing pieces face down with the hemmed edges overlapping and the raw edges lined up with the raw edges of the pillow top.
  12. Sew all around, clip the corners and turn the pillow inside out.
  13. Place the pillow form in the pillow cover.
