How To Make A Smocked Dress

DESCRIPTION +

SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 1 1/4 yds smocked fabric, or measure bust & hip to fit for yardage
  • Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS:

    All seams are 5/8" unless stated.
  1. Cut 1 piece of fabric so that elastic edges it snugly around bustline and back.
  2. Sew center back seam right sides together. Turn and turn hem.
  3. Cut arm sleeve 5" lengthwise. Stretch elastic to fit arm scye, add (2), 5/8" seams. There will be a finished hem on top edge. Turn and turn hem on the bottom edge of sleeve. Remove two rows of the elastic chain stitch to make the turn and turn hem to look the same as the finished top edge.
  4. Attach sleeve to dress at side.
