  • 1/4yd 45" accent fabric for inner border
  • 4yds lightweight fusible interfacing
  • 28" curtain rod, dowel or vintage golf club
  • Sewing machine
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Optional: Rotary cutter, mat & transparent ruler

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Note: Seam allowances are 1/2". If ironing is needed, use dry medium iron.
  2. Measure and mark the motif center with a pin.
  3. Trim Square By Design® Square to 21" wide and 18 1/2" tall with motif centered. Fuse interfacing to back side of SBD piece. Machine zigzag stitch around edges of SBD piece to prevent raveling.
  4. Fuse interfacing to back side of accent fabric. Cut two strips 18 1/2"x 1 1/2". Pin one strip, right sides together, to the left edge of the SBD piece. Stitch. Repeat with the remaining strip on the right edge of the SBD piece. Press strips outward.
  5. Cut 2 strips of accent fabric, 22"x 1 1/2". Place one strip, right sides together, along the top edge of the SBD piece. Pin and stitch. Fold outward and press. Repeat with the remaining strip along the bottom edge of the SBD piece.
  6. Fuse interfacing to the back side of the main fabric. Cut one piece, 25" wide x 24 1/2" tall for the back. Set aside.
  7. Cut 2 strips 24 1/2"x 3 1/2". Place one strip, right sides together, along the left edge of the accent fabric piece. Pin and stitch. Repeat with the second strip on the right side. Fold strips outward and press. NOTE: If using a plaid fabric, it is desirable to cut the strips from the same part of the design.
  8. Cut 2 strips 25"x 3 1/2". Cut these strips from the same part of the design as those in step 6. Place one strip, right sides together, along the top edge, pin and stitch. Repeat with the remaining strip along the lower edge.
  9. Cut 5 strips 7" tall x 4" wide, cutting from the same part of the design as in steps 6 and 7 if using a plaid. Fuse interfacing to the back side of each strip, fold in half lengthwise, right sides together, pin and stitch long edge. Turn right side out and position the seam in the middle of one side. Press.
  10. Fold strips in half, with the seam side on the inside to form 5 loops. Position first loop 1/2" in from the top left edge, raw edges even. Pin in place. Position second loop 1/2" in from the top right edge, raw edges even. Pin in place. Position and pin the remaining 3 loops evenly between the left and right loops. Machine baste across top edge to secure loops.
  11. Lay wall hanging front on a flat surface, right side facing up and folding the loops downward onto the fabric. Lay the backing fabric on top of the front piece, right sides together. Pin and stitch all sides, leaving a 10"-12" opening in the bottom seam.
  12. Turn right side out. Press. Fold opening fabric edges inside, pressing well. Slip stitch closed.
