SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 100% cotton fabric for ice cream, bowl, background & lining
  • 2yds fabric ties: 1/2" double fold bias tape, 3/8" twill tape, 3/8" grosgrain ribbon or make your own using knit or woven fabric
  • Pattern template (download PDF under print description above)
  • Basic sewing supplies
  • Dimensional fabric paint
  • Red pom pom

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Download the pattern by clicking “download PDF" below Print Description on the right.
  2. Cut out patterns using cutting directions on the pattern.
  3. Seam allowance is 1/4" unless stated otherwise.
  4. Cut fabric ties to about 18" each.
  5. To make your own woven fabric ties, cut strips 1 1/2"x 36" long. Fold strip in half long ways and press. Fold raw edges in toward center fold and press again. Stitch down the side to close tie. Cut to 18" length and finish one side by folding twice about 1/4" and stitching to secure.
  6. To make your own knit fabric ties, cut strips of knit fabric 1 1/2" wide. Stretch strips out until knit fabric rolls. Trim down to 18" lengths.
  7. Match ice cream pieces to the upper side pieces right sides together, matching notches. Stitch seam. Press seam allowance toward side
  8. Match bowl pieces to lower side pieces right sides together, matching notches. Stitch seam. Press seam allowance toward side.
  9. Stitch top and bottom pieces together right sides together. Press seam allowance down
  10. Match outer mask pieces right sides together, and sew the outer curve. Repeat with lining pieces.
  11. Open both mask halves and press both seam allowances to the right.
  12. Top stitch down the seam allowance, about 1/4" from the seam.
  13. Lay one half of the mask down with the right side facing up. Pin raw ends of fabric ties in each corner, placing them 1/2" up/down from the top and bottom edges. Finished tie ends should extend toward the middle of the mask. Once everything is pinned in place, bundle the tie ends together in the center of the mask.
  14. Match front and back pieces right sides together, nesting center front seams.
  15. Pin and sew around the exterior of the mask, leaving a small opening at the bottom of the mask between the center front seam and corner.
  16. Clip across corners, taking care not to cut through the stitching.
  17. Turn mask right side out and press.
  18. Topstitch around the mask, closing the hole at the bottom in the process.
  19. Using dimension fabric paint, add scattered sprinkles over the top of the ice cream. Hand stitch a red pom pom to the nose to make a cherry.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Took some time....here's my suggestions Experience helped! Suggest cutting out all the paper pieces & lay them out to get a sense of how they fit together. There are No Notches - mark seam allowances on pieces to align. Pin or hand baste Upper Side piece to Ice Cream piece (upper portion of Ice Cream piece is not sewn to anything but the lining). Bowl straight side matches up to Lower Side piece. These 2 assemblies are then sewn together, making one side of the face mask. Match up seams and edges to sew right sides together with other side. Then add Lining. Fun pattern but needs some clarity to the instructions!!!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cute, instructions need to be revised Needed to read the instructions a couple of times but really worked from the picture when putting it together. Directions could have been clearer, pattern pieces labeled better, not sure what they were referring to regarding”notches” and more in-depth explanation in some areas. Adorable mask and finished product looked nice.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from a waste of time and fabric I can't make heads or tails of the pattern. I gave up and threw everything away. Too bad because it is a fun idea.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from like the mask Like the mask but it would have been better if you had a video on how to assemble the piece it is so confessing. Or if the pieces was marked better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cute but bit of a puzzle Had to figure out what it would look like on paper to figure out how the finished product would look like. The curve part is the hardest to sew because the mask part is sewn a little lower than ice cream part. I will modify it a bit to get a better fit. But very cute

Rated 1 out of 5 by from This is a terrible pattern. The pieces don’t fit. Don’t you try out patterns before y put them out? You certainly should!
Date published: 2020-05-27
Rated 3 out of 5 by from upper pieces do not match up right or wrong sides on the pattern there are no "notches" to match. When i cut these out the curved edges do not match up for the upper pieces at all. unless someone has a picture that show how to match the icecream and the upper side this is impossible. Sorry, but i can sew and this isnt an intermediate....not the way the pattern is printed out. something is wrong with this. I'm sorry.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from POOR Pattern and here is why The front seam from mouth to nose is a bunch of stitch holes allowing penetration of virus particles. Look on line for a safer pattern. Don't risk health to be cute looking. Silly.
