SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 7 skeins of yarn - different colors of choice, including some with different textures
  • 2-3 wooden dowel rods 36" in length
  • Scissors
  • 1 roll of jute

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Cut pieces of each yarn color 40" in length.
  2. Take one strand and make a loop in the center of the strand. Lay the loop over the dowel rod and pull the two strands through the loop, pulling the loop tightly.
  3. Continue to loop the yarn over the dowel with each color to make a grouping of color about 6-8" wide on the dowel rod. Do this all across the dowel rod. Then repeat on each dowel rod, but mix up the placement of the colors from the first row to the second row and then the third.
  4. Cut a piece of jute about 6 feet in length.
  5. Lay the yarn filled rods level, 6-8" apart from top to bottom. Starting at the left side bottom, tie the jute on the end of the bottom dowel rod. Go up to the next one and tie a knot on the dowel rod with the same jute strand and then go on to the next dowel rod above and tie a knot. Leave a fair amount of jute across the top of the wall hanging to hang it and then tie the knots on the other side of the wall hanging on each dowel rod.

Craft Hack Tips and Tricks:

  • To get a more natural look, don't evenly trim the bottom edges of each group of yarns but leave them ragged so that they kind of stairstep up and down in the adjoining groups of yarn.
