GAUGE:
17 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in St st worked in rnds (knit every rnd).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

DIRECTIONS:

NOTES:
Hat is worked in one piece in the round, beginning on a circular needle then changing to double-pointed needles.
Top of Hat is shaped by working simple decreases.
The edge of the Hat will roll naturally.

HAT:
With circular needle, cast on 80 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd. Join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist sts.

Work in St st worked in rnds (knit every rnd) until piece measures about 8 in. (20.5 cm) from beg.

Notes:
On the next rnd, you'll be placing st markers for the decreases used to shape the top of the Hat. We suggest you use different color markers than the beg of rnd marker.
Change from circular needle to double-pointed needles when sts have been sufficiently decreased.
Don't forget to move your markers!

Shape Top of Hat:

Set-Up Rnd: K10, *place marker (pm), k10; rep from * around.

Rnd 1: *K to 2 sts before next marker, k2tog, slip marker; rep from * around - you'll have 72 sts.
Rnd 2: Knit.

Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until you have 2 sts remaining between each marker.

Last Rnd: K2tog around - 8 sts.

Cut yarn, leaving a long yarn tail. Thread yarn tail into blunt needle, then draw through remaining sts. Pull to close top of Hat, then knot.
