Finished Circumference About 19 in. (48.5 cm), will stretch to fit a range of sizes
Finished Height About 11 in. (28 cm)
GAUGE:
9 stitches = about 4 in. (10 cm) over Seed stitch worked in the round.
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
DIRECTIONS:
NOTES:Hat is worked in one piece in the round on double-pointed knitting needles. If you prefer, you can work the hat on a 16 in. (40.5 cm) long circular needle, then change to double-pointed needles to work the last round.
The edge of the Hat is worked in Stockinette stitch worked in the round (knit every stitch on every round) and will roll; the rest of the Hat is worked in Seed stitch.
HAT:
Cast 43 stitches onto 4 of the double-pointed needles - with 10 sts on 1 needle and 11 sts on each of 3 needles.
Place marker for the beginning of the round. Join by working the first stitch on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle and being careful not to twist the stitches.
As you knit the Hat, slip the marker as you come to it on each round.
Work in Stockinette stitch worked in the round (knit every stitch on every round) for 5 rounds.
Work in Seed stitch worked in the round as follows:
Round 1: Knit 1, *purl 1, knit 1; repeat from * around.
Round 2: Purl 1, *knit 1, purl 1; repeat from * around.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until you have about 1 yd. (1 m) of yarn remaining.
Last Round: Knit 1, *purl 2 stitches together, knit 2 stitches together; repeat from * around - you'll have 22 stitches.
Thread yarn tail through remaining stitches and pull to close the top of the Hat, then knot securely.
FINISHING:
Weave in yarn ends.
