Beginner 1-2 Hours
SUPPLIES & TOOLS:
  • 2 packages 20 mm wood beads
  • 2 packages 25 mm wood beads
  • 1 bottle Navy Blue Rit Liquid Dye
  • 1 bottle Evening Blue Rit Liquid Dye
  • Jute twine
  • Air dry clay
  • Clay roller
  • Wood skewer
  • Cookie cutter
  • Scissors

DIRECTIONS:
  1. Roll out clay to about 1/4" thick. Cut shape out of clay using a cookie cutter or wood skewer. Poke a hole for stringing at the top of the clay shape. Set clay aside to dry according to the directions on the package.
  2. Separate beads to dye, and beads to leave natural.
  3. To dye beads, mix 1/2 cup of dye with 2 cups very hot water in a disposable container. Add beads to dye and stir for about 5 minutes or until desired color is reached. Beads will lighten as they dry. Quickly rinse beads under cool water and than spread onto paper towels to dry.
  4. Once beads and clay have dried, string onto twine in desired pattern, using photo as a guide.
  5. To make tassel at the end of the garland, wrap twine around a piece of cardboard about 6" long. Slide bundle of twine off the cardboard and tie a double knot around the top loop of the bundle.
  6. Tie a second piece of twine around the entire bundle, about 1" down from the first knot.
  7. Cut open bottom loop of the bundle to create the tassel.
  8. Attach tassel to the garland by tying the end of the garland twine to the tassel. String end of twine back through the last few beads to hide.
