SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • 2 yds of print fabric for base and middle strip
  • 3/8 yd of contrast fabric
  • 3/8 yd of contrast fabric
  • 10" of contrast fabric
  • Two 5" pieces of project foam (measures 24"x 36")
  • 2 bags of stuffing
  • 1 bag (roll) of batting
  • Serrated knife
  • Hot glue gun/ glue sticks
  • 8" or 9" long upholstery needle
  • Pencil, paper
  • X-large plastic bag
  • Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS:

  1. All seams are 1/2" unless stated.
  2. Cut a bottom 36"x 36" square out of paper. Marking the length and width with pencil. Fold paper into quarters, round the corners with a pencil. Open paper for a complete circle. This is the base of Yoga pillow.
  3. Cut three sections of 5 1/2"x 42 5/8" for the middle strip. Sew sections together to complete a circle.
  4. Cut two middle sections strips 40"x 10" of contrast fabric out of the two 3/8" yd fabrics. Sew two contrasting strips together. This will be the middle section.
  5. Cut eight pieces 9"x 10" out of contrast fabric. Assemble pieces to resemble a mosaic design. Sew the eight pieces together to make two strips of four each. Attach to the two middle strips. Lay the paper pattern that was used for the base and draw on the outside to create the circle. Sew the mosaic top to the middle strip.
  6. Sew half of the middle strip to the bottom base, leaving half open for stuffing.
  7. To make inside using the project foam, cut the sections with serrated knife to complete a 34" circle. Wrap batting around project foam, gluing the overlaps together. Wrap the pillow in the plastic bags, cutting plastic to open to one sheet. The plastic bag will slide into the fabric easily. Without the plastic it will be very hard to insert. After insertion, pull the plastic wrap out.
  8. Push the stuffing into the pillow sides and on top, pin open seam allowances together. Add more stuffing if needed before closing. Hand stitch closed.
  9. Find the middle of pillow, mark on the top of the pillow and the base. Thread upholstery needle with four to six strands of thread, push needle to the base side marking, go over about 3/8", then come back up to the top of pillow. Push pillow with your thumb to indent, tie in a several knots to secure. Cut off excess thread leaving 1/2" to decorate.
