SUPPLIES & TOOLS:

  • Simplicity #1033
  • Fabric & notions from pattern envelope
  • 3 yds grosgrain ribbon
  • 1 yd lining
  • 3 yds petticoat netting
  • 12" separating zipper
  • Sewing notions

DIRECTIONS:

All seams are 5/8" unless stated.
  1. Skirt: Cut skirt pattern to desired length. Using skirt pattern, cut out an additional front and back to make a fuller skirt. Cut out lace overskirt out of the same pattern, leaving the center front open and 18" shorter. Cut a curve edge at the center front of lace to take off the square points. No need to hem the lace overskirt. Attach lace to skirt, gather together, and follow pattern instructions to complete skirt. Cut out petticoat from the same skirt pattern out of lining, shortening pattern by subtracting 7 1/2". Cut petticoat netting 18" x double the circumference of width of hem of skirt for fullness of ruffle. Fold ruffle in half, gather to fit petticoat lining. Attach petticoat to yoke of skirt, adjusting lining length so ruffle extends 1 1/2" showing at the bottom of skirt if needed.
  2. Top: Mark front top pattern at underarm extending over bust line to center front. Mark back top pattern at underarm to center back. Make darts for shaping the back and front. Cut shoulder straps 19" x 1 ½". Fold in half, right sides together, sew a ¼" seam, turn. Adjust shoulder strap to fit.
  3. Lace edging: 1 ½" x measure the length around the edge of the top times two, gather to fit, sew lace to top, add shoulder straps over lace. Top stitch lace 1/8" so that lace stands up.
  4. At center front, sew small pleats to make a sweetheart shape for plunging neckline as desired. Add separating zipper to center back and hem bottom.
  5. Corset: Mark the center back on the fold, eliminating center back seam. Open the center front by adding a seam allowance. To shape the center front pattern, mark from the top of corset a curve line to side seam. Follow pattern instruction for completion of corset.
  6. Add 4 button holes on each side, lace ribbon through to the top.
